MAP
A Navigational Tool for Student Success

MAP: A Navigational Tool for Student Success is a pre-fall experience designed to support first-year students as they transition into life at ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ University Maryland. Through a curated series of programs, workshops, and activities, students are introduced to academic success strategies, campus resources, and the broader Baltimore community. The program emphasizes intercultural exploration and personal reflection, encouraging students to better understand themselves and others while building a strong sense of belonging from the very beginning of their college journey.
Students are placed in small groups led by trained peer Navigators who serve as mentors
and guides throughout the experience. Together, they engage in team-building activities,
meaningful discussions, and opportunities for community engagement. MAP is designed
to help students connect, build confidence, and feel prepared to actively engage,
explore, question, and discern their place within the ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ community as they begin
their first year.
Program is best suited for:
- First-generation college students navigating college systems and expectations for the first time.
- Students seeking community, support, and connection through a cultural exploration lense.
- Students who may benefit from additional support in building confidence and a sense of belonging on campus.
- Students who are unfamiliar with campus resources and want to establish a strong support network before the semester begins.
- Students who feel nervous or uncertain about the transition to college and would benefit from an early introduction to campus life, expectations, and community.
