成人头条 University Maryland鈥檚 Bunting Peace and Justice Speaker Series will hold two keynote talks this fall exploring environmental and racial justice, human rights, and reparations in Maryland.

Kyle Whyte, Ph.D., will present 鈥淏eyond Reserves: Indigenous Peoples and Energy Justice鈥� on Monday, Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m. in McGuire Hall West in the Andrew White Student Center. The talk will examine environmental justice and the ethical challenges Indigenous peoples face in climate change, conservation, and relationships with scientific institutions.

Whyte is a professor at the University of Michigan鈥檚 School for Environment and Sustainability and a citizen of the Potawatomi Nation. He conducts research on environmental justice, moral and political issues faced by Indigenous peoples, climate change, and conservation. Previously, Whyte served on the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council and the U.S. Department of the Interior鈥檚 Advisory Committee on Climate Change and Natural Resource Science.

Nicholas Creary, Ph.D., will present 鈥淭he Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission: Moments of Accountability and Opportunities for Engagement鈥� on Monday, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m. in the 4th Floor Program Room in the Andrew White Student Center. The talk will address the origins, work, and recommendations of the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Jesuits鈥� obligation for reparations to Maryland鈥檚 African American communities.

Creary co-founded and served as a commissioner on the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission from 2019 to 2026, which developed recommendations to confront and repair the legacy of racial terror lynchings in Maryland. He is a history instructor at Coppin State University and has taught at Georgetown University, Marquette University, and Ohio University. Creary wrote the books Domesticating a Religious Import: The Jesuits and the Inculturation of the Catholic Church in Zimbabwe, 1879-1980 and African Intellectuals and Decolonization.
